Casio Exilim EX-V8 8MP Digital Camera with 7x Anti-Shake Optical Zoom Review

I bought this to replace my old EX-Z750. I first tried the Lumix DMC-TZ3 but was really disappointed with it so decided to try the V8.
The feature set on the V8 blows my mind, but what's _really_ impressive is the quality. Don't expect it to perform like a digital SLR or an HD video recorder, expect instead to be amazed at how well it can take photos and record video while still fitting comfortably in your pocket.
Some highlights:
* The sound recording is amazing--it records stereo and captures a remarkable dynamic and tonal range.
* Optical zoom works while recording video
* 7X optical zoom with little noticeable distortion
* Long exposures no longer have the severe red-shift of old Exilims
* Video is recorded in Mac-compatible format (no special converters requied)
A few drawbacks:
* Low-light video has lots of compression artifacts
* As with all compacts, flash is harsh.
If what you need is a camera that you can use to capture the moment, this it because it fits in your pocket, performs well under an incredible range of conditions, and provides remarkable fidelity for the package. It's unlikely you'll win any awards, but you'll find you capture more.

Sony DCR-SX83 Flash Memory Handycam Camcorder Review

Sony DCR-SX83 Flash Memory Handycam Camcorder

I have had a VHS camcorder, a $1500 Hi 8, camcorder, and this is the simplest, most compact, highest quality recording camcorder, I have ever seen. It slips into your pocket, turns on when you open the viewfinder, the viewfinder is a touch screen. My searches found that the biggest con on camcorders was low light. With Sony's new Exmor sensor, the only low light I have found is inside a closet. Stills are as good as my A40 took. Viewing on my 58 inch 1080P is outstanding. And that is from the DVD I recorded. I could have bought four of these with what I paid for my Hi8 in 1994.
I am 82 and have tremors, but you cannot tell it from my recordings. I did buy the FV70 battery, which adds tons of recording time, the cheap travel charger, (battery is recharged before the OEM battery runs out), the 30mm UV protector lens, (so I don't have to keep opening and closing the lens shutter for protection), the cheap handle which makes the camera easier to handle and less prone to dropping, and a 25 watt LED flood that runs four hours on two AA batteries, (which I haven't found a use for yet). It is just an overgrown LED flashlight. I have eight computers, five that I built, and I have never seen anything that is so sophisticated, so easy to use, so small, and so cheap in my life. Oh, I still need to get a lens cap.

Micro Professional Projector MPRO110 Review

Micro Professional Projector MPRO110
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are considering the 3M MPRO110, my recommendation is that you fully understand your use and purpose as well as the limited capabilities of this product before you buy it. It is definitely NOT a replacement for the typical portable projector by any measure. It certainly looks impressive and is a very compact unit. It will suit the specific needs of some but generally does not compare well with the capabilities of other portable projectors.
In my situation I was only looking for a personal unit to use in my office in a darkened environment with a white projector screen and a laptop/notebook computer to display Windows WMV video files and Apple Quicktime MOV video files. It appears that the MPRO110 may meet my very minimal requirements since I will be the only one using it as a study aid. The picture at maximum distance, projects large enough (nearly as large as my 61" Sony rear projection TV) in my case, which may justify the use of the MPRO110. However what is displayed is not equivalent or even close to the original display output because the brightness and sharpness of the image are not sufficient for most purposes.
The good, the bad, the ugly:
1. The MPRO110 cable for PC/laptop/notebook connectivity is way TOO short and in my opinion should be at least 3ft-4ft in length.
2. The MPRO110 unit really does needs a stand or tripod to rest on at sufficient height to allow the greatest distance 1800mm (71") around 6ft, in order to achieve maximum picture size and to justify its actual use.
3. The MPRO110 power connector cable should have been at the back because it seems to keep pulling the unit off balance because of the short length of the VGA cable despite its own ability to swivel around at the contact point. The cables tend to make it hard to keep the unit flat on a surface.
4. Brightness of the MPRO110 is only marginally acceptable in a darkened room although it is reasonable to expect better than what it projects.
5. MPRO110 focus is limited and I found the focus control range and use to be not very acceptable.
6. The on off button and the focus control are small and that's OK but the plastics lack tactile feel and a nicer button or control using some hardened rubberized material that a user can grip more easily would be much better.
7. To insert, charge and use the battery a small screw must be removed to take the cover off and this is not documented in the Operators Guide or Quick Start Guide.
8. I like the display compatibility and support all the way up to WXGA but would love to see it provide at least 1280 x 1024 support or greater in the future. The Operators Guide does not show the support for WXGA as is displayed on the 3M website.
9. The 3M MPRO110 has an impressive form factor being extremely compact and lightweight.
10. Connecting and setting the MPRO110 is not difficult and it is easy to use.
The 3M MPRO110 is an excellent product in concept. It is very evident to anyone attempting to use the unit in its current implementation that there are significant shortcomings for usability. 3M obviously understands the need for a compact portable projector but the execution could have been so much better. With an enhanced engineering effort and greater output capability, a unit like this done right would have taken the projection market by storm. There is a very real and a very large demand for a unit like this that can deliver. 3M in my experience is a quality vendor, however this unit does not live up to the promise of what it should have been. It does have potential and I can only hope that 3M acknowledge its shortcomings by making substantial improvements to the next generation.

My first impressions of this small camcorder are very good. The size is perfect as it fits in your purse so it is available at all times. How many times have you thought I wish I had my camera. The battery last about one and a half hours,it is a infolithium battery, which means that you can see how much time you have left on it. Plus it will hold and retain its charge over time. The record time on sp is about 85 minutes. This camcorder will accept up to a 16 gig memory card. And, you can purchase additional batteries with longer record time. The number of the batteries range between np-fh50 to np-fh100. The touch screen is simple and easy to use. It is powered up when the lcd screen is opened. The controls all have a good placement. The zoom is great works quietly and quickly. The sound is also very good(I could hear every bite the cat ate,the screech of the rocking chair and even the tv which was turned low.)No it is not hd but the picture is very good. This camcorder has a quality build and a Carl Zeiss lens. Because of the features, you would expect this small beauty to be more expensive. So in the end you get quite a lot of bang for your buck.I wanted to add that with a 8 gig card you get an additionl 174 minutes(nearly 3 hrs. additional record time. The npfh50 battery gives you 3 hrs of additional charge. When this two items are added you have nearly 4 and a half hours of record time. Also, the camcorder allows you to choose to record on the internal memory or the memory stick. Plus Amazon has the best prices on the battery and memory card.

AAXA Technologies P2 Pico Projector Multimedia Handheld Projector Review

AAXA Technologies P2 Pico Projector Multimedia Handheld Projector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
AAXA's P2 is the best art projector I've used. For that application, it deserves five stars. With the P2 positioned over my desk, I can essentially turn my entire drafting table surface into a computer screen. The P2's 33 lumens are bright enough for a satisfactory image with room lights on. Like any other projector, the image needs to be shaded from sunlight, but the room does not need to be dark.
The P2 is generally marketed for business/PowerPoint presentations. Any shortcomings there are likely due to variable environments, but the projector is terrific in a controlled studio. I've used an inexpensive microphone stand to suspend the P2 over my work table. I wrapped black electrician's tape around the mini-tripod's legs for a secure attachment to the end of the microphone boom. The P2 can be pointed straight down toward a flat table or angled to match the tilt of a slanted drawing board. At 30 inches over the table it projects a bright 15x12 inch image with room lights on. At 66 inches over the surface (the full extent of my stand), the projected image is a clear 30x22 inches with subdued room lighting. The P2 produces a vivid image over six feet in width in a darkened room.
I get the sharpest image from the P2 when I set my laptop PC to 800x600 at 60Hz refresh rate. The auto-detect settings on the PC wanted to use 1024x768 resolution. While that works, the projected image is somewhat blurred. When I first switched to 800x600, my PC wanted to run at 70Hz refresh rate, but the P2 couldn't decode the signal. I had to use the graphics adapter's advanced settings to force a 60Hz refresh rate. The PC graphics adapter can also easily switch to portrait mode or mirror the image so I don't need to reposition the projector.
I prefer the PC as the source because I can easily pan and zoom the image, but my Zune also generates a clear image with the P2. Apparently, Microsoft's Zune software automatically resizes images when they are loaded on the Zune player, making them near perfect for the P2. Unfortunately, the Zune AV cable from AAXA is ridiculously short (12 inches), and so the player has to be suspended from the overhead boom with the projector. That makes it hard to reach the Zune player when I'm sitting at the table.
The P2 reads jpg files from internal memory or a micro SD card, but to get a clear image you need to manually resize picture files to 800x600 pixels or smaller before loading them in the projector. That's a hassle. As noted below, controlling internally stored pictures is also difficult when the projector is overhead.
There are a couple annoyances with the P2 design. Since the P2 projector's IR sensor is on the back edge of the unit next to the VGA connector and pointed at the room's ceiling, the P2's remote doesn't work when the projector is overhead. That's not much of an issue when I control the picture with the PC. Also, the projector's fan makes a hissing noise sort of like an overhead air vent on a jetliner, but I don't notice it when concentrating. The fan noise doesn't interfere with playing music on my audio system while I work.
Compared to traditional art projectors (huge, hot, heavy things that produce dim images by reflection off a paper source) the AAXA P2 is a wonder.

I wrote a scathing review of my experience in purchasing this product, at first, when Electronics Expo, the Amazon-vendor, would not accept a return on this product. My decision to return it was based immediately on observing the "screen door" appearance (resolution)compared to another DLP model a friend let me borrow and try. Also, the zoom feature wasn't as good. Having said that, though, the convenience of this design, with the DVD player and sound built in, is a very nice thing, and in the end, I decided to keep it and make use of it for that reason alone. I also got an email and phone number from Electronics Expo trying to make good on the deal. The rep was reachable by phone, and tried to make me happy. I recommended they find a way to say "you may not return this item if you purchase it" show up somewhere on the cart check-out page before you click "complete purchase." So, let the buyer beware.Epson MovieMate 55 Portable 3LCD Home Theater Projector with Built In DVD Player
